In Memoriam of Robert “Bob Jackson, Sr.

Republished with permission from the Jackson Family

With much regret, we inform you of the passing of Robert “Bob” Jackson, Sr., a Throggs Neck legend who left us on February 2, 2024. Born and raised in Silver Beach, Bob was a lifer whose impact and involvement in the Community spanned over eight decades.

Robert “Bob” Jackson, Sr.

As a student at St. Frances De Chantal, he met the love of his life Joanne in the 8th grade. They would marry in 1967 and settle down in their lifelong home on Fern Place, a home originally built by his father. Following his honorable service in the Army from 1966 to 1968, he became a Local 1 plumber. But one hat was never enough for Bob. Bob was a colorful story telling bartender at many local bars, including McGuinness & Farrell’s, Casey’s, and Bridges/Sebastian’s. He was a Coach at the Throggs Neck Little League and AFC Rapid Soccer.

Bob was the Commander of the Silver Beach American Legion Post #1371, where he became the “voice of Memorial Day” for the last 20 years. He always looked after his fellow veterans, and made sure their sacrifices were remembered reverently, followed by a quick joke or story to lighten the mood afterward. He was also a valued life member of the Locust Point Yacht Club. Proudly, Bob was one of the founding members of the Throggs Neck Benevolent Association, whose amazing work on behalf of our community continues to grow each day. But of all the many hats he wore and titles he held, Bob’s favorite was clearly “Dad” or as he would eventually become known, “Pop Pop”. He was an extremely proud family man, and his son Bobby, and daughter’s Ann and Kathleen were always a top priority in his life, no matter how many hats he wore.

Bob was sadly predeceased by his loving wife Joanne in 2010. He is survived by his son Bob Jackson Jr, (and his wife Vanessa and children Abigail and, Colin) Ann Jackson Gregory (and her husband Mike and children, Ryan, Courtney, and Brayden) and Kathleen Jackson Hutchings (and her husband, Shawn, and children Brady and Ashley).

The wake will be held at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday February 6, 2024 from 3:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Frances de Chantal on Wednesday February 7, 2024 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob’s memory to the: SSG Michael Ollis Foundation, 168 Burbank Ave, Staten Island, NY 10306; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The SSG Michael Ollis Freedom Foundation passes our very deepest condolences to the Jackson family and friends. May Bob Rest in Peace.
