This year’s race marks a powerful milestone. What began a decade ago as a tribute to Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis has grown into one of Staten Island’s largest and most meaningful running events. In 2026, the race takes on even greater significance as it coincides with the historic announcement that SSG Michael Ollis is to be awarded the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest military decoration.
The 10th Anniversary run is not only a celebration of community and fitness, but a moment of national recognition for Michael’s extraordinary courage, selfless sacrifice, and enduring legacy.
Our USATF-certified race course serves as the first leg of the Staten Island Triple Crown, and we are excited to welcome runners, walkers, families, and supporters back to New Dorp for this special anniversary event.

🏅 Staten Island Triple Crown Registration
Runners participating in the Staten Island Road Racing Triple Crown can take advantage of discounted registration, receiving $5 off each of the three races.
The SSG Michael Ollis 5K is the first leg, followed by:
- Firecracker 3-Mile Run
- Michael’s Cause: Step for a Cure (September)
🎽 Race Packet Pick-Up
Participants may pick up bibs and race packets at the
SSG Michael Ollis VFW Post
575 Mill Road, Staten Island
- Thursday, June 11: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Friday, June 12: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets will be available during packet pick-up. Winners will be selected following the completion of the race.
🙋 Volunteer Meeting
A volunteer meeting will be held at 9:00 AM on Sunday, June 7
at the SSG Michael Ollis VFW Post (575 Mill Road).
Breakfast will be served. Volunteer roles include:
- Registration
- Bib pickup
- Raffles
- Course directions
- Water stations
🇺🇸 About the Race
The SSG Michael Ollis 5K is organized by the SSG Michael Ollis Freedom Foundation, a nonprofit organization, and professionally scored by Richard Re of ScoreYourRace.com.
After race expenses, all proceeds support the Ollis Freedom Foundation, which provides assistance and support to combat veterans transitioning back to civilian life.
